The Mexican Mayan World

Once home to some of the most important cultures in ancient America, Mexico is steeped in history and colorful traditions. Its landscapes are equally diverse and the vast territory is a biological treasure house.

From north to south, east to west, Mexico Offers something for every visitor. The country is divided into six tourists regions: The Pacific (Baja California Norte and Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa and Nayarit); The Norths( Chihuahua, Durango, Nuevo León, Coahuila y tamaulipas); Colonial Mexico (Michoacán, Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguas Calientes, Colima, San Luis Potosí. Guanajuato and Queretaro); The Heart of Mexico (Mexico City and he Stae of Mexico, Morelos, Guerrero, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala); The Route of the Gods (Veracruz, Puebla and Oaxaca) and the Maya World (Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quinttana Roo).

The Mexican Maya World welcomes the Caribbean in the State of Quintana Roo and crosses the border into Central America and the nations of Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador.

In the Maya World, there are mountains, jungles, wetlands, savannas, beaches and islands, with

wildlife to match. Modern services and transport make traveling the Maya World a pleasure. Hotels, restaurants and other facilities exist everywhere.

Traveling to the Maya World

Regional airlines operate flights to area archaeological sites. From Cancun you can fly to Chichen Itza and Palenque; Tikal in Guatemala vía Flores and Copán in Honduras. From Cancún, Chetumal and Cozumel you can fly to cities in southeast Mexico and to destinations in Central America with connections to the United States, South America and Europe. Bus service is good throughout the region and renting a car is a viable option.

Quintana Roo: from Cancun connections are available to just about anywhere in the Maya World.

Puerto Cancun

Yucatan: is the location of Chichen Itza, Uxmal and the Puuc Route sites. The state has nature reserves, ancient ruins  colonial churches and convents.

Merida: is filled with architecture from the colonial period exemplified by the Cathedral, Casa Montejo and The Tercera Orden.

Uxmal: is a Late Classic, Puuc style city with superb architecture.

Ek Balam

Ruta Puuc: A chain of lesser sites located 25 km south of Uxmal via a sacbe that ends under an arch and its principal structure is the Codz-Pop.

Chichen Itza: the earliest architecture such as Las Monjas, in Old Chichen is built in the Puuc style and belongs to the late classic period.
